Facing a Raise in Late Position at a Loose FL Hold'em Game

You are sitting in late position. So you have just been playing a few rounds from upfront. Perhaps you have had ok but not good cards, hands that simply have to be thrown straight in the muck from early- and middle position. You are hoping to get to play some poker! Now you look down at 6 4, an ok starting hand from late position. It is the kind of hand that has potential against a large field. The first few players do not disappoint you, a few callers later though, along comes the raise! Now the prize is too high to play, in a minute there is a new hand.

In late position against a raise you need cards that do well in larger, often multiway pots. You will be up against a raisor. You need to be able to beat many and good hands, and do it often enough to compensate for the two bet preflop investment.

Little offsuit Broadway should not be played; these cards are easily dominated. All suited Broadway should be played. QTs is added compared to EP & MP. Two groups of cards added are: suited aces and stronger non-gapped suited connectors. That is A 9, T 9 and all other hands with a light green horizontal stripes to the right side should all be played in late position after a raise.

Both of these groups of cards can beat large pots. The way the suited ace does it is obvious. A suited ace can also hit a surprise two pair (be aware of a bigger) but the suited connectors are the real sneaky big cash reeling cards.

The added cards from middle position are all suited, this theme is replayed for the raising recommendations. A raise with AQo or 99 will probably not accomplish anything like getting you heads up. This is not a drawback for hands like KQs or AJs, these hands has lots of possibilities, they perform well in large/small and multiway/shorthanded pots.
