The good times have come! No one has yet shown strength by raising you will have positional advantage the rest of the hand. Not only do you know how the others (apart from the blinds) like their hole cards preflop, you will get to observe the others reactions first on the flop, turn and river as well. This leaves a lot of space for different maneuvers.
Consequently, the preflop recommendation chart is lit up like a Christmas tree. Three hand categories has been added compared to middle position: suited kings, suited connectors and also offsuit Broadway. The suited hands do best in larger fields, while two “kind of” highly ranked cards prefer a smaller field.
A suited connector as 5
3
is not a heavyweight holding. However, the situation does not call for only robust hands, with the right amount of help, fragile hands wins money as well. There is no other situation in a Holdem game where you stand to get more help than in late position against only limpers. The more players that see the flop, the more likely it is that you are duly paid off those time you hit.
Q
T
is another holding that is unplayable until these favorable conditions. This hand does not like company though. The reason that it has become playable is that the ordinary threat of domination has dropped when no one has taken the initiative in the pot. The danger remains, so the warning system should be turned on. That way, hitting a weak top pair will more often win a smaller pot than lose a bigger one. As soon as more players see the flop, caution or attention must be paid to players that could hold a dominating hand as K-Q, K-T, or simply weird hands that has happened to hit the flop (or turn).
This is a good spot to do some more raising. Partly because the hands stand a good chance of being the best; and money entering the pot is more likely to be yours than anyone else’s. Taking the initiative is more valuable from late position where you can decide later on whether to push forward or take a free card. Pushing anyone apart form the blinds out of the pot is unlikely. This is why raising with strong and also quite strong suited hands is profitable.
