The Pocket Cards

As already stated in Texas Hold'em each player has two own cards and the player can combine these with five community cards to make the best five card hand.

It is the two pocket cards that are dealt first. These two first cards are also called "hole cards". They are the only private cards that you will be dealt during the hand. Another way of viewing this is that what starting hand you have is the only information that is not shared with the rest of the players. Thereby the starting hand is the single most important aspect in deciding how you will play the hand.

- Two cards are dealt face down to each player. The dealing is done clockwise, starting to the left of the dealer.
- The community cards do not come yet. A round of betting occurs before that.
